Energy brokers that are impartial can complete searches for great energy rates for your business, and best of all...the service is free. Businesses aren't made to pay for these services out of thier annual savings, rather the energy companies who make billions of pounds of profit pay the brokers. Good energy brokers have relationships with the big six energy companies and many smaller suppliers ensuring you get a full range of market analysis. Our favourite in the Yorkshire region is Mrs Energy Ltd- for management of your energy bills and energy rates visit www.mrsenergy.co.uk

Industry is responsibe for 25% of the UK's Carbon dioxide emissions*. Companies spending over 500,000 thousand pounds a year on their energy bills are now obliged to take part in the Carbon Reduction Commitment (see our page for more information). Companies that have to take part in the scheme must have correct records of their energy usage. A good way to record this information and to then utilise the information in a practical way, is through a Building Management System (BMS). The BMS can identify key areas in the building where energy usage is very high- like the heating for example. By reducing the building thermostat by 1-2 degrees, a notable difference will be recorded.
Does your company have over 25 employees? Have you ever considered a car share system before? Why not group all your employees onto a spreadsheet and colour code those who live within a mile radius of one another. Why not then encourage staff to to share lifts to and from work. Not only will this reduce your companies overall emissions, but you will help develop stronger friendships at work- it has been said that staff who feel as though they have good relationships at work are said to be happier in their jobs. Happy staff= higher productivity!
Road traffic accounts for approximately 22% of the UK's total carbon dioxide emissions*. There are many ways in wich you can encourage staff to cut down on this excessive use of energy- the humble bicycle.
Puch bikes encourage your staff to be healthier and happier (your body releases feel good hormones called endorphins during and after exercise). Why not subsidise the cost of your staff purchasing a new puch bike to further increase their chances of cycling to work. Note to employers- bikes need to be stored in a secure, dry environment (prefereably a bike shed)- no one wants a wet seat when they come out of work, and probably even more importantly- a shower on site always comes in handy.
