The Project

HW Martin Waste Limited offers vital recycling and sorting facilities for many public and private organisations across the UK. The Leeds Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) separates and bales recyclable materials ready for re-processing.

HW Martin were keen to reduce the electrical load to their Leeds MRF site, and as a result reduce their energy consumption and operational costs.

The original x55 sodium fittings and selection of fluorescent fittings were producing a poor quality output, and were costing HW Martin approximately £13,500 per year.

‘The new system is very effective... the illumination of the facility is 100% better'

Low Energy Fittings

We replaced the inefficient sodium fittings with the latest in fluorescent technology. The fittings that we specified, supplied and installed at the HW Martin facility had three major benefits; 1) the fittings used 46% less energy, 2) the new fittings were vastly brighter and 3) the fittings work in conjunction with natural light coming in through the roof lights.

The fittings were also coupled with microwave detectors to enable the fittings to be switched off when not in use.
